Pretend Cake

Pretend Cake is a play on a regular baking class with a strange twist. Not every student is alike and this towering robot cake is an extreme example of that. I wished to convey an energy of crazy creativity through the boldness of the machine in contrast to the other regular cakes around it. As a further magnification, I included the simplistic yet expressive bakers each standing next to their respective creation, and giving a reaction of their own.

Pretend Cake was a challenge for myself to create an illustration and express a lighthearted narrative using only one adjective (Pretend) and one subject (Cake). Using a limited, complementary color palette of blue and orange, I experimented with exaggerated scale and in the end was left with this spiraling piece.
